Songo play at Z-arts in Manchester, Saturday 24th November

The Songo Drumming Project are supporting local composer-performer Da Vida unites with renowned South African singer Joyce Moholoagae in a dramatic evening of music, words and video.

‘City’ is a journey of struggle and resolution, a potent celebration of difference and diversity, an exploration of identity.

Acoustic and electric instruments, African voices and drums, integrated with digital technologies, weave material both challenging and eclectic.

Recent Songo Performances and Events in Wakefield and Leeds

The Songo Drumming Project has been busy in the area, particularly celebrating Black History Month.

The community comes together to all have a good time in a total random fashion occasionally but sometimes it needs just a little nudge!

Our very own Tsongesai and his friends in the Harehills/Burmantofts area helped to put on an African awareness event featuring member of the Songo and many others.

A Fantastic Festival of Fun

The Anglers Club in Harehills, Leeds was the venue for our World Music Fest. Non-stop music and dancing featuring local performers showing the amazing cultural diversity we have in the Leeds area from all around the World.

The day started off with the Songo Drumming Project giving everyone a welcoming drum call at the entrance where a few new drumming stars got to try their hand at some of the instruments.

There were gig drums, small drums, djembes, congas and a special type of African xylophone called a BALAFON.

Children's Day 22/07/2012 Headingley Cricket Ground

What a day! Songo Songo Drumming have run a public drumming workshop at the Children's day event at Headingley cricket ground

The day ended with a beautiful performance with some beautiful movements along with the public involvement.

I was particularely impressed by the interrest shown by children and parents! How good was that? AWESOME!!!

RETAS Leaving-Do Event

This was an event organized by RETAS Leeds to pay tribute to their leaving Director, Duncan Wells after many years' service to this charitable organisation.

The event at St Augustine church was as emotional as you could imagine. Loads of tears to say goodbye to the man who has been at the for front of every challenge to help poors people finding jobs or getting into trainings and education.

Olympic Celebration Performance

As part of Refugee Week and celebrating the Olympic Torch arriving in Leeds

Songo are playing mid afternoon at a venue at the top of Scott Hall Road just down from the Leisure Centre. Don't know exactly where and I hope we'll be under shelter if it's raining!
